Sunnyside Restaurant & Lodge, West Lake Tahoe

There is something magical about Sunnyside at night. I’ve been working at Sunnyside Resort for three years now and one thing has became apparent to me. How beautiful it is when the sun goes down and the deck lights up. During the summer, the deck is lit and filled with people which is quite the contrast to the still emptiness of winter. Sunnyside may not be my place of work forever but it sure is a wonderful establishment to have been a part of.

If visiting Lake Tahoe it is a must to experience the magic of Sunnyside for yourself.

It amazes me how with the change of a season brings a change in the color of the lake. During the winter Lake Tahoe is a deep icy blue removing it’s summery greenish tint. I suppose the color of the lake during the winter is an over indicator of the feelings in the air. A cool and crisp feeling in which causes you to bundle up in dark relatable colored clothes.

A perfectly relatable style for winter fashion is grunge. I am a major fan of grunge wear anytime of the year however; I love how dark colors, layers and flannels go particularly well with the vivid blue of the lake in December. It’s amazing to me how fashion and nature compliment each other from season to season. Fashion has always been influenced by nature, in both utility and design aspects, and natures ever changing state will always push to keep fashion evolving in the same way.

Next time you are enjoying natures beauty take a moment to reflect on how it’s reflects your style… ~ Kiley

Welcoming Of Pirates & Gypsies by GypSoul

Over the past few months I’ve fallen back into my old hobby of jewelry making. When I started selling my creations to the girls at work I realized I could actually have a business out of my hobby. And at the same time keep my foot in some aspect of the fashion world while living in Tahoe. It’s been a long time coming but I’ve finally launched my first jewelry collection, Of Pirates & Gypsies by GypSoul. Of Pirates & Gypsies is a reflection of my personal style with the edge of a pirate and mystery of a gypsy. Through my collection I hope to reach my fellow pirates and gypsies.

I would describe the first collection Of Pirates & Gypsies as boho chic with a classic edge. My esthetic is to use high quality products including many gemstones and Swarovski crystals. I am also accustomed to using salvaged materials from broken or abandoned jewelry. It brings me much excitement to take an old piece of jewelry and bring it new life.

My premier collection Of Pirates & Gypsies is now available on Etsy. Check it out and let me know what you think 🙂

Truckee River

I just came across this photo in my library. I took it during the King Fire at the end of summer. The fire burnt multiple hundreds of acres and at one point was under 10 miles from Alpine Meadows. It was a very scary time but thankfully for the firemen’s hard work and with mother nature on our side the fire was eventually contained. And of course I was able to take some pretty awesome photos.

Fire is nothing to mess with but it sure does create a beautiful sun and sky.

Day 1 ~ Flora's Dive Resort

Day 1 Flora’s Dive Resort

My father is a self-proclaimed sunset lover. No matter where we may travel he has always made a point of watching the sun set. This characteristic seems to have rubbed off on me. While in the Philippines I made a point to watch and capture the sunset each and everyday. In this magical land it wasn’t hard to capture some of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve yet to see in life. The majority of which took place on the island of Siquijor at Flora’s Dive Resort.

I must admit I truly miss having the privilege to sit back each and every afternoon and watch the sun disappear into the ocean. There is no better way to end the day and at the same time begin the night. The time in which separates the two is just as magical at the land its self. I can’t wait for the day when I return to the Philippines and all it’s stunning sunsets.

Thank you sun for setting each night and bringing us the beauty of it’s colors.

Normally I’m not one to wake before the sun. However I believe that every once in a while it is important to watch the sun rise. It is a particularly beautiful experience to watch the still darkness of the forest quickly turn into a bright new day. And I must say the energy of the rising sun makes up for the early rising time.

I highly suggest you try it some time.

Lately I have been obsessed with the Beatnik’s and the birth of the hippie generation. Luckily for me I have also been spending a decent amount of time exploring the city where it all began. When I walk around San Francisco I can feel the nostalgia of a time that not only changed the city but the world in one way or another. I can’t help to think that by being in the city I am somehow part of the history that someday will be. It’s a feeling that truly excites my soul.

San Fran at Night

Every time I step onto the streets of San Francisco I am stricken with a sense of inspiration. I am greatly inspired by the cities past but also by it’s potential. It is truly a inspiring feeling to understand that you are in a place which limits no creativity, opinion or lifestyle. San Francisco is an open book in whomever is able to be the character in which the choose. And that is most definitely a book that I am willing to emerge myself in.

San Francisco someday soon I will call you home

Farewell Summer

Sunsets with Friends & Family

It is evident now that summer is over. Though the weather is maintaining nice there are other sure tell signs. First of all the invasion of people has discontinued. In a tourist town a lack of people is sure sign that summer is over. Second the sun sets before you feel it should. Out of nowhere your days are cut short and no one seems to be happy about it. Last but not least the trees are beginning to change. This is actually the only beautiful part of the end of summer; leafs of yellow, orange and red. In honor of summers farewell I dug up some of my favorite summer photos to reminisce on. Thank you summer of 2014 for being the best summer ever!

Autumn in Lake Tahoe

Autumn had fallen upon us. Now it’s time to sit back and wait for nature to bless us with winters snow. And soon enough time will bless us with a New Year, which will once again bring us summer.

Until next year, summer you will surely be missed!

For the past month I haven’t felt much like writing. I guess I haven’t been inspired by much lately. So when I was called up to Ashland to explore my friends new home I couldn’t resist. It was a chance to discover something new and re-inspire my soul. And it turns out Ashland is a great town to get inspired in.

Sending love to Ashland

Ashland is a wonderful and wild place. A place full of some of the best things on earth; art, nature, great food, vintage fashion and of course hippies. It is a place where the abnormal is the ordinary. A place that always has something worth seeing right around the corner. I am so grateful to have friends which bring me to place like Ashland.

You’ll be see again soon Ashland!

Subway Life

Since I can remember I’ve always had dreams of living the big city life. Finally this past February my two best friends, Jessie and Chelsea, and I made the trip across the country to visit Mary Katherine in New York City. MK had been living there for only 6 months and the entire time we were anticipating our visit. We finally arrived on a cold Super Bowl afternoon to all my dreams coming true.

After 5 days of exploring the city via subway I was even more in love then I ever could have ever imagined. But even more I was in love with the idea of seeing a place for the first time, which is ultimately what took my to the Philippines only a few months later. New York is a city full of fashion, lights and culture. A city I had dreamt of for years and had a hard time leaving but in my heart know I will return soon.

Mermaid beach is a magical place beyond the gypsy forest. It’s one of those places that is your favorite even before you’ve been there. And once you have there’s no looking back. This beach has been a place of joy and serenity for me. It’s also the birth place and image for GypSoul since the beginning. Embodying all that GypSoul is.

Siquijor, Philippines

I’ve always known that one day I would make it to the Philippines but I never thought it would come so soon. Spontaneously, during a dinner date with Tony and Charlie I decided I could no longer just listen to the stories. I needed to experience the Philippines at this vital time in my life. Three weeks later, with Jessie in tow, we were on a plane to Cebu to meet Tony. Leaving San Francisco that foggy April morning we had no idea what was to come.

From first arriving in Cebu to crying at the port when it was time to leave, as my newly found friends sang “You’re leaving on a jet plane”, the spontaneous trip had changed my life. The places seen and the people met impacted not only the way I see the world but the way I see myself. My inner gypsy soul had always told me to explore the world and when I actually did my soul sang. My future seemed brighter and for once my life made sense. I am meant to travel and to experience as much as possible and I seriously can’t wait to see what else there is for me in this world.

There is no better way to spend a hot summer day then at the creek. Sure the lake is wonderful too, but can often be taken over by tourist. So my two best friends and I set off to find a secluded area on ward creek where we can drink hard cider, pick flowers and play with our camera’s.

Squaw Valley, CA

One of my favorite parts of summer is when Wanderlust makes it’s way to Squaw Valley. A yoga, art and music festival which is far more then it seems. A place where people unite and enjoin natures beauty. Whether you’re visiting during day or night there is immense creativity and amazing people surrounding you.

DSCN3031_Fotor

All around you will find sculptures made from sticks, pine cones, crystals and other trinkets. At the center of most is a Buddha statue. The resourcefulness of these sculptures is absolutely stunning to me. It is a wonderful idea to use nature in such a way and also to give the people a place to pray and center themselves.

DSCN3038_Fotor

It’s funny to say that, for the past four years, I’ve attended a yoga festival and never participated in yoga, but it’s true. Not because of a lack of interest but because usually I’m working. Next year hopefully I will be able to change this. However this year I had just enough time to check out the yoga scene and it amazed me. Hundreds of people practicing simultaneously.

DSCN3044_Fotor

By far my favorite part of the of Wanderlust is the Tea Tent. It’s a magical place where people are invited to drink tea. The tea is complimentary however they do welcome donations. The thought behind the tent is to provide a place, that is alcohol and drug free, where people are able to sit and relax while enjoying a cup of tea. This year, I learned that the Tea Tent is based out of San Francisco and is a community which travels to spread their beliefs in tea. I think it’s a beautiful belief and am considering joining the community.

Until next year Wanderlust, I will be waiting.

Rebirth

Siquijor, Philippines

For the past several months I’ve been absent from writing and in it’s absence I have learned two things; how important it truly is to me and how doing what you preach brings pure happiness. When I first started blogging I mainly posted inspirations that I found browsing the web. As I continued I began posting about my actual life. When suddenly my life began to change.

In the past year I have truly been emerged in a life I’ve always wanted. From road tripping to Colorado to jet setting to places like New York City and the Philippines I’ve seen and done things that before I only dreamed about. I’m slowly yet surely growing into the person I have always wanted to be. So with the rebirth of myself, I thought it only fitting to give rebirth to GypSoul as well. From here forward GypSoul will only contain the true story of my life, interests and experiences lived through a gypsy’s soul.
I hope you all enjoy.
